Resources – Preparing for Prison – Prison Discipline

Prison Discipline

Prison is a secure environment. Guards can ask to search an inmate at any time and an inmate must comply or face administrative sanctions. Sometimes, a guard may wake an inmate just to search him. This is not common, but it does happen. When this tactic is used, it is usually to show “who is boss.” Remember to behave yourself and to be a model inmate.

There can be severe penalties for associating with gangs while in prison. In addition, crimes committed while in prison can result in hefty sentences added to your current sentence. There is no such thing as a concurrent sentence for a new charge committed while in prison.

The bottom line is that inmates should socialize with other inmates, but refrain from engaging in gang-related or criminal activity. If you stay clean and out of trouble, your time in federal prison will likely go smooth. Avoid prison discipline.
